The sweeping stroke of the pen and the power of the brush leave the character of the artist on the words: a leaping off point; a multi-sensual line or shape in space. The interplay of subject (mark) and object (paper).

Calligraphy artworks: A collection of commissioned letter works
Following, are artworks on paper, by John Stevens, whose original works are included in the collections of the San Francisco Public Library, Berlin’s Akademie der Künste, Klingspor Offenbach, Casa del libro, as well as many other public and private collections. Works on paper are collected as Calligraphic Art (like drawings) and are not merely a collection of a calligraphy font.
You will notice a page is designed: calligraphy is rarely just line after line of letters, but rather, think of a page of calligraphy as a composition. That’s how I approach my work.
